Mumbai: Western Railway produced a solid second half performance to overcome a determined East Coast Railway (ECR) 8-4 in a well-contested and high-scoring Pool-A round-robin league match of the 72nd All India Railway Men Hockey Championship, at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate. The scores were tied 1-1 at the end of the first half.
The tournament is being conducted by Central Railway under the auspices of the Railway Sports Promotion Board.
Vinod Singh, Jay Karan and Amit Rohidas, all scored two goals each, while Malak Singh and Stanli Minz chipped in with one apiece to complete the tally for Western. The eastern outfit scored through a brace by Khalid Md. and one each from Deepak Raj and Binay Raj Kullu.
In a Pool-B encounter, Southern Railway rallied to down West Central Railway 3-2. B. Praveen hit the target twice and G. Sureshkumar added the third to help Souther snatch a win. Mehrajuddin and Maveen ur Rehman scored the goals for the losing side.
