South Central Railway plans to improve Cement Transport by Rail

SECUNDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) has assured the representatives of cement industry to extend all possible cooperation to improve cement loading.

The representatives of different cement companies located within the jurisdiction of SCR held meeting a with the top-brass of railways and discussed strategies to increase concerned goods traffic on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, SCR general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav appealed representatives to utilise different freight-friendly incentive schemes of Indian Railways to enhance cement loading through rail network for the current fiscal.

He also advised representatives present to make the best use of concessions offered in notified empty flow direction routes. “Plans shall be drawn to meet the specific requirements of the cement industry to enable it to utilise the rail sector for transport of cement, both for short and long distances,” an official release stated.

Earlier, representatives from the cement industry discussed about their expectations and needs from the SCR in terms of operations and commercial support. The issues related to availing freight discount schemes and settlement of claims were also discussed during the meeting, which was attended by representatives of over a dozen leading cement companies.

The SCR has bagged all India performance efficiency shields in five disciplines, the highest among all zones, for its performance during last financial year. It achieved earnings of Rs 12,100 crore. In freight segment alone, the SCR carried 96.83 million tonne, which generated a revenue of Rs 7,934.7 crore
