South Central Railway plans to tap Rain Water to stem crisis

SECUNDERABAD: As monsoon is approaching, the South Central Railway is making necessary arrangements for rainwater harvesting to resolve water crisis problem and also reviewing the safety measures to be followed to prevent signalling and engineering failures.

Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) scheme was implemented in SCR few years ago as part of Indian Railways’ action plan for water conservation. “Among the six divisions of SCR, the most number of RWH systems have been installed in Secunderabad and it has been informed that SCR has already achieved over 70% of the targets set for their zone. We have RWH’s in all our stations, residential quarters and office buildings,” an SCR spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya instructed the divisional railway managers to formulate an action plan for monsoon preparations, as part of which patrolling at vulnerable areas should be intensified to ensure track safety and optimal punctuality must be achieved by ensuring safety of workers.
