The South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada Division, has earned a remarkable INR 2,933 crore gross revenue through the 2012-13 financial, as against INR 2,291 crore previous year. The boost in earnings was 28.1% compared to earlier year.
Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mr. Pradeep Kumar said, the division recorded “vibrant progress” in passenger earnings, cargo loading and in improving passenger amenities. The operating ratio in the division was 44.75.
SCR had transported over 98.57 million passengers to various destinations this year, compared to the 98.34 million passengers during 2011-12. The zone had earned INR 548.91 crore through passenger transportation through 2012-13, which was INR 501.05 crore in the earlier year.
The DRM said, the railway officials conducted checking drives at various points and booked several cases against ticket-less passengers and for carrying un-booked luggage. The earnings on ticket checking were INR 25.13 crore, which were INR 20.39 crore through previous year.
Mr. Pradeep Kumar said, the cargo earnings posted a remarkable growth, particularly from Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) and Kakinada Sea Port Limited (KSPL). The section earned INR 2,293.78 crore during the present fiscal year whereas the previous year’s earnings were INR 1,706.44 crore. Cargo loading has reached 28.332 million tonnes (mt) this year, compared to the 24.802 million tonnes during 2011-12, registering a growth of 14.23%.
SCR had operated 10 mango rakes from Nuzvid during April this year, generating INR 2.31 crore revenue. The mango specials were loaded from Nuzvid to Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi. Vijayawada division would operate 25 more mango rakes through May and June months.
