KOLKATA: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at South Eastern Railway’s Headquarters, Garden Reach with due solemnity. Sri Ajay Vijayvargiya, GM/South Eastern Railway unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the ceremonial parade presented by the contingents of Railway Protection Force, S.E. Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides, St. John Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence Personnel etc. While paying glowing tributes to freedom fighters and gallant Jawans who sacrificed their lives defending the country, Sri Vijayvargiya urged all railway men to face the challenges confronting the Railways unitedly. Highlighting the services rendered by South Eastern Railway to its users in respect of passengers amenities, introduction & augmentation of mail/ express trains, running of special trains etc, General Manager called upon all railway men to make all out efforts towards customer care and to work diligently to ensure safe and secured rail travel to achieve people’s more confidence in the system.
Manager while addressing the large gathering of railway men and members of the family said that S.E. Rly carried 150.76 million tonnes of revenue earnings freight in 2017-18 which is 2.05% more than the previous year. This robust freight loading is the ever highest after tri-furcation of integrated South Eastern Railway. In the passenger sector, this railway carried 259.62 million passengers which is 0.22% more than the last year. By this tremendous performance both in freight and passenger sectors, S.E. Rly has been able to generate Rs.14,824.40 crores in 2017-18 which is 6.34% more than the previous year thus achieving a net surplus of Rs. 6453.32 crores. The punctuality of SER’s coaching trains is 90.72% and the Operating Ratio of SER stands 75.90% which is one of the best in Indian Railways, as added by the General Manager. Safety & Security of the passenger have got highest priority in South Eastern Railway. Stations, passengers and all trains running over SER have been under security vigilance deployed by RPF personnel.
