सलेम Salem (SA): Southern Railways has agreed to consider letting the Nilgiris Express stop at the Periyanaickenpalayam station. They have also agreed to look at plans to spruce up the station. They plan to move all the freight traffic from Coimbatore North Station to the Tirupur Station.
Divisional Railway Manager of the Salem division, Shubranshu, inspected the Periyanaickenpalayam station on the request of the Coimbatore Railway passengers association. The association had earlier in the evening submitted a petition to the divisional railway manager requesting him to ” make the Nilgiris Express stop at Periyanaickenpalayam before it makes it final stop at Mettupalayam and provide more amenities at the Periyanaickenpalayam station like provide snack stalls, a library, toilets and better platform facilities”.
The shifting of the freight station to Tirupur junction would help reduce congestion in the highways connecting the two districts. Coimbatore North currently handles 400 trucks of freight a week.
