To cope with the rush of tourists in summer, the Railways has started a special express train between Dibrugarh and Chandigarh. The weekly train will ply from April 5 to May 28, making a total of 26 trips.
The express train (05903) will depart every Friday from Dibrugarh at 8.40 am and reach Chandigarh on Monday at 1.45 pm. From Chandigarh the train (05904) will commence its journey at 11.10 pm on Sunday and reach Dibrugarh at 6.15 am on Tuesday.
The train consists of one AC 2-tier, one AC 3-tier, nine sleeper class, four general class and two disabled-friendly second class-cum-luggage van coaches. The train will stop at 34 stations, including Ambala, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Coochbehar and New Jalpaiguri.
While the fare for the AC 2-tier will be Rs 2,750, for AC 3-tier, it will be Rs 1,845 and for the sleeper class, it will be Rs 710. At present, the regular weekly train on the route departs from Chandigarh on Wednesday. Owing to the heavy rush and the increasing waiting list, it has been decided that an additional train be plied.
In the coming days, some more holiday special trains are expected to be started. With summer vacation in educational institutes in May and June, the rush of travellers increases. For the long-distance trains, the booking starts early. A similar situation is witnessed during winter holidays.
