Udhampur (UHP): Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s February 2 visit to inaugurate the Udhampur-Katra railway track, a high-level team of railway officials and PM’s Special Protection Group (SPG) team on Thursday inspected the track and Katra and Udhampur railway stations.
DIG L Dogree along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police security wing officers visited Katra and Udhampur railway stations to finalise the security arrangements for the PM’s visit.
As per official reports, the DIG (SPG) along with senior officials of various security agencies first visited Katra railway station. The DIG reviewed the security scenario ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit and sought a detailed report on deployment of cops. The SPG team also visited the Udhampur railway station and held a detailed meeting with senior officials of army, air force and police at Air Force Station, Udhampur, before leaving for Delhi.
The SPG team was here to explore the possible venue for the railway track inauguration function as it can either be Katra or Udhampur. Hence, they visited both places. The SPG team will submit its report to the Prime Minister’s Office.
“This was an early security review visit, which will be followed by advance security liaison meet (ASLM) and other preparations in days to come,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
According to sources, the PM will be on a two-day visit to the state. On February 2, Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the Udhampur-Katra rail line and on February 3 he will inaugurate the Indian Science Congress at Jammu University. The Prime Minister will meet chief minister Omar Abdullah and senior Congress leaders before attending the inaugural function of Indian Science Congress at Jammu University.
