Ernakulam Jn (ERS): In order to educating the public against the anti-social elements who pose threat to Railway passengers, the Government Railway Police conducted an awareness campaign at Edappally on Sunday.
The people who reside near the Edappally Railway station were roped in for the campaign. The GRP decided to conduct the campaign in the wake of an incident in which miscreant pelted stones at a ten-year-old boy when he was travelling with his parents in the Ernakulam-Madgaon Express. The incident had taken place near the Edappally Railway station after the train left Ernakulam Junction Railway station.
“The awareness campaign is part of the newly introduced Janayathra Community policing, a model of the Janamaithri policing where residents associations as well as passengers are roped in to tackle crimes. We have sought opinion from the public on what can be done to avoid the situation. We have told them to inform us if they notice anti-social elements in the area,” said Ernakulam GRP SI P Vinod. The Railway police have reported that such incidents were common in the region.
He added that the Railway police and the Railway protection force along with the local police are still investigating the incident.
