Super Cyclone Hudhud cause Rs.15.6 Crore loss to South Central Railway

सिकंदराबाद Secunderabad (SC): Hudhud cyclone left the South Central Railway (SCR) bleeding as it suffered revenue losses to the tune of Rs.15.6 crore in a span of just 3 days. While nearly Rs.4.6 crore was lost from passenger services, freight operations resulted in a loss of Rs.11 crore. “A total of 94 trains were cancelled,19 trains were partially cancelled and 74 long distance express trains were diverted via alternate routes,” said CPRO K Sambasiva Rao.

He explained that about 5.5 lakh passengers in which 54000 were reserved segment were suffered due to the paralyzing of train services in the last 3 days. He said that freight terminals such as Kakinada Port, Ravikampadu, Regupalem, Jaggayyapet and Karepalli were effected where commodities like imported coal, fertilizers, Lime stone, cement and laterite could not be loaded due to inclement weather and disruption to rail services. It resulted in a loss of loading to the extent of 33 rakes with 1.22 lakh tonnes of freight, said Sambasiva Rao.
