After an inspection, G.C. Agarwal said: “The station is nice. I am impressed with it. It boasts a nice facade that very few railway stations have.”
Agarwal, who was accompanied by senior officials of SER and Chakradharpur division, further said there were plans to add more passenger amenities to Tatanagar station. “Among the many projects we have sanctioned, a new air-conditioned lounge will come up on the premises in the next two months. Refreshments will be available for passengers on the lines of the existing lounges in Bangalore and Chennai stations,” he added.
Referring to a query, the senior railway official said they had also given the nod for two escalators at Tatanagar, an A-category station under SER. One will come up on platform 1 and the other between platforms 2 and 3. “Orders for installing the escalators will be given soon,” he said.
Two lifts will also come up on platform 1 and between 4 and 5.
During the inspection, Agarwal directed the railway officials to install big fans at a few specific points for the benefit of passengers. The local railway authorities were told to ensure that complaint book was available on the station premises.
Agarwal further said due to safety-related issues, it would take some time for converting the abandoned overbridge into a footbridge. According to him, work on this particular project was expected to be over by March 2014.
Referring to the contentious issue of parking outside the station, he said efforts were being made to resolve it.
