Ranchi: National record holder Tintu Luka of the Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) didn’t disappoint her mentor and coach PT Usha, as she bagged the gold in the 800m on the second day of the 53rd National Open Athletics Championships in Hotwar on Sunday.
Luka, who had a disappointing finish in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, led the pack right from the start on Sunday.
She clocked 2:18:70, followed by teammate Sushma Devi, who bagged silver with a time of 2:3:11. ONGC’s Sini A. Markose finished third with 2:3:51.Usha’s another student, Jessy Joseph, finished fourth, but the track queen wasn’t upset.
“She is just 17-and-half, but still competed in the seniors category and came fourth. Mark my word, like Luka, in the next season Jessy will emerge better and bigger both at national and international events,” Usha said after the race, embracing all her players.
