Both Vinoth Kanna and Sivasankaran were found consuming liquor along  with their friends during late hours of Sunday at  the festival.

While the rest of the group left the spot, the victims Vinoth Kanna and Sivasankaran, in an inebriated state, are believed to have slept on the railway tracks near the Aththipuliyur unmanned level crossing.

During the early hours of Monday, the Nagore-Bangalore passenger train which passed by, crushed them to death. A little further down the line, one Sekar (40), a mason from Adiyakkamangalam village in Thiruvarur district, was also sleeping on the same track. The train ran over him also.
