TIRUCHCHIRAPPALLI: In order to create awareness among the general public on safety, the Trichy railway division has launched a mobile truck carrying propaganda message. The vehicle, which was flagged off from the Trichy Junction railway station will travel all over the division to carry out safety campaign.
The campaign is undertaken as part of the level crossing week which falls between June 1 to 7. Railways observe June 7 as the International Level Crossing Awareness Day. On this occasion, divisional railway manager P U K Reddy flagged off the rally and mobile safety awareness vehicle.
The vehicle will pass through various railway stations in Trichy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Vriddhachalam, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Karaikal, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur to create awareness among the public and students about safe travel in train and safe crossing in unmanned and manned level crossings.
During the last one week various safety propaganda activities, inspections and counselling were undertaken by the safety branch of Trichy division at various places.
Officers and staff of Tirchy division, members from Scouts and Guides, St John’s ambulance, railway civil defence, students from schools participated in large numbers in the rally.
Though railway has taken the above safety precautions at the manned level crossings, road vehicles frequently damage the gate barriers resulting in loss of railway property and trains have to be piloted by the gatekeeper. This is time-consuming and affects punctuality of trains. Vehicle users are also punishable for the offence, officials said.
