SURAT: In Surat diamond city, Udhana railway station presents an ugly picture. A pool of muddy water, potholes and muck welcome the passengers at the railway station.
The railway authorities are seemingly not concerned about the filthy railway station and the miseries of the passengers, especially the working class passengers.
Despite various representations by local residents and elected representatives in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), the railway authorities are not initiating any measures to keep the railway station neat and clean.
Rakesh Yadav, a worker in the chemical unit travelling from Udhana to Vapi on daily-basis said, “Walking at the railway station is a big challenge. You have to be careful about the potholes hidden beneath the pool of water. A wrong foot on the ground and you can slip in the filthy water.”
Shailesh Parihar, a passenger said, “We have been dealing with this situation for the past two months. The railway authorities are not doing anything to resolve the issue.”
A senior railway officer said, “We have asked our head office to sanction funds for constructing a road at the railway station. This will solve the daily problems faced by the passengers.”
