Minister urge Vizag as ECOR Hq, SER Hq shift to Bhubaneswar, demands Metro Rail

Visakhapatnam:  Seeking equitable development of all regions of the State, Member of Parliament from Kurupam and Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj V. Kishore Chandra Deo outlined a number of issues that would have to be addressed in the event of bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh State.

In a letter to the Antony Committee, which he handed over during his meeting along with other Union Ministers from Seemandhra Region at New Delhi on Tuesday, he demanded that the headquarters of East Coast Railways be re-located to Visakhapatnam with Vijayawada and Guntur Divisions added to it, and the South Eastern Railway Headquarters be shifted to Bhubhaneswar as it was unrealistic to have two Zonal Railways in the already high density of rail industry almost choked in Kolkata, which also have Eastern Railways headquarters.

“Vishakhapatnam is situated at the centre of the East Coast of India between Kolkata and Chennai. The East Coast Railways Headquarters which should have been located at Vishakhapatnam is unfortunately established at Bhubaneswar.  Kolkata has two zonal headquarters – Eastern Railways and South Eastern Railways.  While Kolkata is in the eastern part of the country, by no stretch of imagination can Kolkata be said to be any part of the South Eastern Region. The South Eastern Railway Headquarters may be shifted to Bhubaneswar with the Khurda Division attached to it and the East Coast Zonal Headquarters must be shifted to Vishakhapatnam with the addition of Vijayawada and Guntur Divisions carved out of South Central Railway” he wrote.

He sought creation of infrastructure at Visakhapatnam and stressed on facilities like information technology park, AIIMS, IIT, IIM and a Metro Rail service. He wanted a Maritime Research Institute, a Central University for specialised PG courses including Anthropology.
