Saliyamangalam (SMM): Passengers travelling in the Karaikal-Tiruchi passenger train besieged top divisional railway officials at Saliyamangalam station near Thanjavur after the train was stopped for nearly 45 minutes there on Tuesday.
The train arrived at Saliyamangalam station at around 9.30 a.m. and was halted there for crossing of the Ernakulam–Karaikal Tea Garden Express.
This was followed by motor trolley inspection in the Thanjavur–Tiruvarur broad gauge section by the Divisional Railway Manager Atul Kumar Agarwal who was accompanied by senior divisional railway officials, railway sources said.
Irked over the detention of the passenger train, a group of travellers got down from the train and besieged the Divisional Railway Manager and the officials at Saliyamangalam and expressed their anguish over the delay.
Railway officials spoke to the passengers and the train left after a nearly 45-minute detention at the station, the sources added.
