MARGAO: The Vasco-Vailankanni Express train will now halt at the Sanvordem-Curchoremrailway station.
According to the latest communique received from the Railway Board by the station manager of the Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station of the South Western Railway (SWR), the up and down Vasco-Vailankanni trains will stop at this station for a minute on an experimental basis for six months, from June 17 to December 16.
As per a notification issued by the station manager of the Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station, the Vailankanni bound train will arrive at this station at 9.54am and depart at 9.55am every Monday, while the down train will arrive at 6.14pm and depart at 6.15pm every Wednesday. The development comes on the heels of a protest organized by the locals, led by the Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, at the Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station on May 27 to demand a halt for the train at the station. The rail roko agitation that was initially planned on that day was called off after the SWR authorities assured Cabral of pursuing the demand with the Railway Board.
Apart from the demand for stoppage of the Vasco-Vailankanni train, Cabral had also put forth a host of demands.
Setting up of parking facilities for two wheelers at the Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station and construction of subways at Shirfod and Kamral are just a few of the several demands that Cabral is pursuing with the SWR on a priority basis.
The other demands of railway consumers include restoration of the express train service on the Vasco-Miraj and Vasco-Bijapur routes and resumption of the Vasco-Miraj-Mumbai express trains
