Vijayawada Railway Police nab Thief, recover Valuables

The accused is a class-IV employee in Renigunta airport

18VIJ_CITY_POLICE_1657724fVijayawada:  The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a robber, M.Girijapathi, and recovered gold jewellery, US dollars and electronic goods from him.  The accused, native of Bokkasam Palem near Srikalahasti, is working as a Class-IV employee in Renigunta Airport.

Briefing this on Monday, Vijayawada Railway Division SP Ch.Syam Prasad said the modus operandi of the accused was to travel in AC coaches, observe the belongings of other passengers, and rob them.

The accused boarded the first class AC coach in Narayanadri Express and robbed the gold ornaments, US $ 2,360 and mobile phones from an NRI couple, while they were returning from Tirupati, a few months ago.

In another theft, Girijapathi travelled in the same train in an AC coach and relieved another couple of their valuables, in May this year.

Guntur GRP DSP T.V. Nagaraju said the police teams led by GRP Circle Inspectors P. Sharath Babu and M. Seshagiri Rao laid a trap for Girijapathi and arrested him on Monday. They recovered property worth about Rs.4.80 lakh from the accused, said the DSP. The railway police also arrested three thieves – Shaik Nagul Meera, P. Jaya Rao and Hari Krishna – who were threatening passengers on platforms and taking money and other valuables from them, said Mr. Syam Prasad.
