VIJAYAWADA: The Station Redevelopment Programme (SRP) of Indian Railways has become a boon for the Vijayawada Division under South Central Railways (SCR) to witness various development works under PPP mode.
It is learnt that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will lay the foundation stone for the works at the Vijayawada railway station on June 15, which are being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 195 crore. According to SCR officials, the Vijayawada Railway junction is one of the 23 railway stations in the country selected for the SRP.
Giving a detailed description about the execution of SRP here, the officials said that the programme would be taken on 7.87 acre (31,849 Sq mt) of reserved railway land situated adjacent to the railway station, Rayanapadu, Satyanarayanapuram, and Ajit Singh Nagar for commercial purpose to generate revenue for the railways.
In addition, station development land of 14,337 sq mt of station building area, 33,821 sq mt of platform area and 13,000 sq mt of circulating area is available at Vijayawada Railway Station to carry out commercial development of air space.
Suitable land was identified by the officials near the main entrance of Vijayawada railway station to construct multi-purpose function hall.
Commercial complexes and multiplexes will come up near the land at Tarapet area.
