Waltair Division celebrates 72nd Independence Day with Great Fervor, despite Cyclone effect

VISAKHAPATNAM: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated by Waltair division of East Coast Railway at DRM office complex, Dondaparthi with great passion. Shri. Mukul Saran Mathur, Divisional Railway Manager, E.Co.Railway/ Waltair unfurled the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salami presented by contingent of Railway Protection Force, Scouts and Guides and Civil Defense.

Addressing the large gathering Shri. Mukul Saran Mathur extended warm and heartiest greetings to all Railway men, women and their families. He apprised that during   2018-19 from April to till date, the division handled originating traffic of 19.5 million tonnes which is higher than the last financial year for same period, on the passenger front, the division carried over 12.5 million passengers during the year 2018-19 and the gross earnings were Rs 2456 crores which is 7.6% higher than the last year. We are trying hard to recoup and to reach the target set by Railway Board & Hqrs he added.

On this august occasion Shri K.Dhanunjeya Rao ADRM read the message of General Manager, East Cost Railway highlighting the developmental works and various welfare activities under taken over the East Coast Railway. On this occasion cultural activities were organized with the participation of Divisional Cultural Association of Waltair Division, Scouts and Guides .

DRM announced cash awards to the performers and organizers who made the programme grand success. Secretary, Smt. Madhuri Kasipati East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (ECoRWWO) along with members distributed health drinks, fruits to patients at Railway Main Hospital and also donated RO Water purifier to Canteen at Railway Hospital.

Despite continuous rains, a large number of officers, staff and their families, media persons and representatives of organized Unions witnessed the Independence Day celebrations.

DRM speech in brief:

Speaking on the occasion DRM said that several safety related modernization works have been initiated over the division like Yard remodeling , removal of Diamond Cross, protection works in KK line, elimination of Level Crossings at 9 locations, track renewals for 56 km have already been completed. Giving top priority for security, tourist assistance booths at Araku and Borra Guhalu established,  CCTV cameras put at Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Rayagada. As a part of Women empowerment for the first time Subhadra Vahini an exclusively team of women for security of lady passengers has been commissioned. 120 children and 5 distress women have been rescued at different stations. As far as passenger amenities are concerned foot over bridges at several stations have been commissioned like Central FOB at Visakhapatnam,  FOBs at Simhachalam, Kuneru, Srikakulam Road and works are in progress at Vizianagaram, Ladda Jimidipeta etc. For better Lenin supply to the rail users Mechanised laundry at Visakhapatnam was setup.  Sanitary napkin vending machines commissioned at Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Rayagada. Two more escalators have already been commissioned at Visakhapatnam in addition and  7 lifts will be installed at Visakhapatnam Vizianagaram and Rayagada.  Train captains introduced,  mobile app for unreserved ticketing launched. HPCL funding CSR funds utilized for providing Pet bottle Crushers, dust bins and Refreshing Longue at Visakhapatnam station

Several infrastructure developmental activities have been taken-up like doubling between Jagdalpur-Naktisamra-Amagura.  3 new intermediate block sections commissioned,  goods shed opened at Kakriguma , improvements in Goods sheds at Kantakapalle, Srikakulam Road, Yard remodellng done at Rayagada, Bacheli . Visakhapatnam will be developed with lots of new amenities under station development plan with an investment of  Rs 10 crores

Traffic speed enhanced from 65 to 75KMPH between Koraput-Kakrigum.  Gunupur,  Parlakhemudi developed as new block stations; Operation Vikas launched for the improvement of running of goods trains. In the human resource development, 90% of the PPOs were revised and 15,500 were distributed to the retired Railway pensioners. Project Saksham was launched and almost 12000 staff have been trained. Halchal camps being organized at regular intervals,  E-pass introduced,  moisture water extractor known as Akash Ganga commissioned at Rauli station,  Physiotherapy lab commissioned at divisional Hospital. Under women empowerment Subhadra Vahini, sanitary napkin vending machines, exclusive ladies gang women for track maintenances, RRI at Visakhapatnam maintained by women staff,  gender sensitization programs,  improving the working conditions at DLS, ELS, New Coaching Complex have been taken up.

Diesel loco shed got 5S certification in the energy conservation sector. In the Sports section , our sports personal excelled at National and international levels and we are improving the infrastructure of the sports for the encouragement and greater participation from this Railways. Sports longue commissioned and infrastructure upgraded. We are also committed to provided clean &hygienic environment to the rail users and we have actively participating in the moment of Swachh Bharat mission.
