We see an uptick in Wagon demand, says Umesh Chowdhary, VC & CMD/Titagarh Wagons

Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Titagarh Wagons Ltd.

KOLKATA: Requirements of more wagons by Indian Railways is a welcome move, said Umesh Chowdhary VC and MD, Titagarh Wagons because for the last few years they haven’t placed much orders for wagons – only few tenders were floated.

We see the full delivery of wagons under current tender by December 2018, said Chowdhary and also clarified that they have no outstanding orders.

The company plans to bid for the entire quantity to be procured in the upcoming railway tender, he said, adding that in the earlier tender they had received orders worth 24-25 percent. The new tender is likely to be for 22000 or 24000 wagons.

“The only order that was finalized was the one few months ago of 9000-9500 wagons for which the company along with its subsidiary Cimmco received 24-25 percent of the orders. That order execution for that has started from June and will ramp up in July,” said Chowdhary.

Industry needs a gestation period of 5 months from the time of receipt of the wagon orders, he added.

The other positive is that the private sector wagon demand has started, he said.
