LUCKNOW: In order to upgrade the profile of passenger amenities at Charbagh station, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) had announced providing an executive lounge at Charbagh station, but things do not seem to be moving on the project.
When contacted, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC, Lucknow Manoj Sinha said, “Space is yet to be handed over by northern railways while the proposal of north eastern railways has been sent for tendering.”
Though the sites for setting up lounges each at Charbagh and Lucknow Junction have been identified, the work on constructing the lounge at the two stations has not been taken up.
The lounge will be of much use to passengers who come on official visit to the city but do not/cannot stay longer than few hours. The facility can be used even by those who have to wait at the station to board the next train to their destination.
Though the facility is to be developed by IRCTC, space has to be identified and handed over to IRCTC by the zonal railways.
At Charbagh station, NR has identified a location close to platform no. 1. The NER, on the other hand, has identified a site in the new hall constructed at junction station.
An executive lounge will not only provide a comfortable stay, but also free refreshment and a meal. A passenger can book a lounge for four hours and pay Rs 300 as entry charge.
A facility of advance booking will be extended to people on IRCTC website, once the lounge comes into existence. It will be of much use to passengers on a break-journey.
The facilities at the lounge would include a reclining sofa or a couch, free meal, both vegetarian or non-vegetarian, snacks, drinks and beverages, internet surfing, magazines and newspapers. The round-the-clock lounge will also have a gift (bouquet) corner, medicine counter and dial-a-taxi service available on payment.
