Davorlim: Goa Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado on Wednesday said that the work on the multi-utility sports facility for Navelim will commence within the next couple of months. Furtado was speaking after a foundation stone for upgradation of Navelim sub-health centre which will have 10 beds and built at a cost of Rs 4.4 crore. He also said that the project is dream come true for the people of Navelim.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the sub-health centre which will cater to an approximate population of 32,000 in the presence of the vice-chairman of GSIDC Sidharth Kuncalienkar among others.
Speaking further, Avertano said, “I toiled hard to get this project passed and it gives me great pleasure that it has become a reality. Work on the multi-utility sports facility will commence shortly and it will be used for the forthcoming national games in November 2016.” He urged people to maintain discipline on the roads as work of sewerage network is in progress while work on the underground cabling is expected to commence soon and the youth in particular not to drive fast as the roads cannot be hot-mixed till the work is complete however the dug up roads will be patched up. He also said that widening of the road from Navelim church to Jaknibandh will also commence shortly along with railway overhead bridge at Davorlim.
Speaking on the occasion, D’Souza said that having plenty of hospitals and doctors is not a healthy sign and the endeavour should be that minimum people come to hospitals. He also said that there are 209 sub-health centres working on preventive care and urged the people to avail of the facilities like immunisation programmes. He also warned people about outbreak of vector-borne diseases and asked them to be alert about diseases.
In his brief speech, Panaji MLA Sidharth Kunkalienkar said that the 10-bedded hospital will come as a big relief to accident victims as it will reduce the time taken till they are shifted to Hospicio Hospital given the tremendous traffic in Margao and assured that the GSIDC will complete the project on time. Director of health also spoke at the function.
