Haridwar: The much-awaited double laning work on the Haridwar-Laksar rail link is going on on a war footing and is expected to complete by the year end.
The project involves doubling of Haridwar-Laksar railway line in length of 27.03 km in Uttarakhand coming under the Moradabad Division of Northern Railway.
Local residents were demanding double laning of the Haridwar-Laksar rail track for quite some time as due to single lane only one train could pass through the stretch at a time.
This led to delay in reaching Haridwar and other nearby stations.Pramod Kumar, Northern Railway Divisional Regional Manager, Moradabad Division, said the work on this stretch was started last month and was going on at a fast pace.
It would cut short the duration of a majority of trains reaching Haridwar through Laksar.
Pramod said in the past one year of his tenure, the construction of bio toilets and development of a herbal park at the Rishikesh railway station, expansion of circulating area of the Haridwar railway station, shifting work of Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force police stations at Haridwar railway station from outer premises to platform area, washable aprons at railway stations, SMS inquiry facility to passengers and cleanliness drive at all the railway stations were given priority.
In the coming months, an electric train would operate on the Haridwar-Dehradun track, as related work was in the final phase, Pramod added.
